“As a digital media expert I have a lot to do with commercial advertising. But if there is one thing that truly deserves good advertising, it is environmental conservation, today more than ever. This is what I want to stand up for, and therefore I am involved with AMAP.”

“AMAP gives me hope in a future where we preserve nature and, thus, our society. This, I gladly support with my knowledge.”

“With AMAP, we have the opportunity to show that it is possible to live well with and from the primary forest without destroying it—even on the contrary, that it is worth reforesting primary forests. If we manage to provide the people in the Mata Atlântica and, if possible, beyond with a good example of a well-functioning, sustainable life, with and not against nature, we can achieve a lot. My dream is that as many people as possible follow the example of AMAP and work for the preservation of those important natural habitats!”

Luis Scheuermann
Photographer and speaker Mata Atlântica
“When I travelled the southeast coast of Brazil for the first time in 1999, I was overwhelmed with and fascinated by the lush nature and the variety of animals and plants in the Atlantic coastal rainforests. At the same time, I was shocked and depressed by the ongoing massive and ruthless destruction of this unique forest nature. Two years later, I was able to deepen my knowledge of the ecology and function of the coastal rainforests as a scientific research assistant in a German-Brazilian research project on the regeneration of rainforests over several years. Together with Markus Mauthe, I came to Ilhéus as a consultant and travel organizer for his photo project “Naturwunder Erde” (Earth’s Natural Wonders) in 2012 to document the highly endangered golden-headed lion tamarins. Again, I was intrigued by those forests and their inhabitants. With the idea of Markus and Achim to start the project AMAP to protect these friendly rare animals in 2016, I saw the chance to make a sustainable contribution to the conservation of those beautiful rainforests. I quickly realized that I wanted to support this great project with my experience and expertise about the Mata Atlântica.”

“The world urgently needs more intact forests for climate and species protection. As part of AMAP, I can help to reforest one of the world’s most species-rich forests and ensure its long-term protection. I want to see the AMAP forest grow.”

“My heart has always been beaten for nature and its diversity. And now it is more important than ever to fight for it. This makes it more important for me personally to be able to actively support nature and animal conservation as well as our environment through my work as a photographer at AMAP. For the power of pictures may show people all over the world that it is worth caring for our mother Earth.”

“Even as a small child, pictures of rainforests have fascinated me incredibly. In the Mata Atlântica, we still have the chance to preserve such beauty and diversity—and every little success on site is an incredible motivation to keep fighting for it.”

Eberhard Plaum
“I am involved as a volunteer in the reforestation activities of AMAP because it is important to me that the Atlantic Forest, the Mata Atlântica, in Brazil is preserved. It is one of the most species-rich rainforests on earth and the last refuge of the golden-headed lion tamarin. It is important to me to preserve this habitat and this unique ecosystem and securing it for the future. It makes me a bit proud to be part of those reforestation projects. I have already been to Brazil twice and got to know the country and its people. A couple of friendships have developed out of this and I am happy every time I return there and see how everything has developed.”

“Many things go wrong in this world, but there is no point in just complaining. We must take action! If my children ever ask me what I have done to solve these problems…I want to be able to give them an answer.”

Theresa Krüger
“Between blistering heat and heavy rain showers, pushing wheelbarrows up steep slopes, digging small pits and planting young plants in the ground is exhausting and at the same time incredibly fulfilling. As I spent a few weeks in the Atlantic Forest during a reforestation period in the summer of 2018, I first realized how urgently we humans need this habitat. Even though we have progressively banned the natural forest out of our cities and centers of life, we remain dependent on all the interconnected ecosystems on this earth. Forests are still the best natural CO₂ reservoirs and as the climate crisis continues to progress, nature and climate protection is taking very concrete forms at AMAP. Not only in Brazil through reforestation and land acquisition, through the protection of and research on numerous animal and plant species, through the joint work of people from the region and elsewhere, which, in particular, has been enriching for me. In Germany too, as a multiplicator at the HORIZONTA festival series, I experience how many individuals feel connected to our initiative, are grateful for our work and at the same time want to make their own contribution. Those encounters, conversations and moments give me great hope. At AMAP, I have met people who not only see nature conservation as a responsibility, but above all as a matter of the heart. I am very grateful to be part of this great team.”

Heiko Schippers
“There are these incredibly big problems like plastic in the sea, global warming or species conservation. And I often simply do not know what I can do about it. Through AMAP, however, I have seen that the will and strengths of each individual can have an effect on a project that can offer people and animals a long-term perspective in an almost destroyed paradise in Brazil! That is why I help AMAP.”

Heiko

Janis Musche
“Probably the greatest challenge of this period is the mitigation of man-made climate change. The preservation of intact ecosystems and the conservation of biodiversity are important tasks that contribute to mastering this challenge. Providing one’s own capabilities for this is the only logical consequence.”
